Lisa’s Wedding

15th September 2009

I was married in March 2007. It really was the most wonderful day! Surrounded by family and friends I married my darling husband David at McKell Park at Darling Point on Sydney Harbour. All of these wonderful images were provided by Dan Blumenthal and his team at Blumenthal Photography.

Our wedding

I walked down the grass aisle on the arm of my proud father to "Unforgettable" by Nat King Cole. Mum was seated with David's parents in the front row with a tear in her eye.

I chose to wear white for my wedding, most brides still opt for ivory, however I have always loved white and decided to have an all white wedding, including white silk gowns for the bridal party, white flowers, linen and chairs.

I used a "vintage pretty" theme by choosing such details as vintage Jaquar cars, "Tiffany" bamboo chairs, classic white linen on the tables and lots of crystal and scented flowers. I designed my gown to be soft and matte with movement and layering. Made in white silk faille, I chose exclusive French Solstiss rose patterned lace to applique down the length of my gown and long sweeping train. The lace took days to applique and it peeps out from the double layered hem and the scalloped edging was used on my mantilla veil. I wore gold and crystal Sergio Rossi stilletoes that I bought in Rome with David shortly after he proposed in Bellagio. And I carried a simple bouquet of white magnolia flowers, buds and leaves. All the gorgeous flowers were provided by Susan Avery. Such a talent!

My sister, Kylie was my bridesmaid - or as she preferred to be called, my flowergirl! Kylie wore layered white silk chiffon over white silk satin with a wide silk sash, I created this style to suit her figure and her personal style.

My brother Mark was my bridesman! David and i decided to only include our family in the bridal party. His brother Geoff was his best man and I had both my brother and my sister as my attendants.

We kept our reception venue a secret from our guests which was a lot of fun! After the ceremony under the trees and a glass of champagne, guests were ferried from the wharf at Darling Point to Fort Denison where they were escorted to a grassy area with exceptional views overlooking Sydney harbour, the Sydney Opera House and t he Harbour Bridge. Fort Denison in such a unique venue for a reception! A tiny island in the middle of Sydney Harbour all to ourselves, a truly magical evening.

table setting

David and I chose to serve our guests a roving entree, generous canapes were served on the grassy area whilst the band played. Such wonderful food! My guests all commented on the delicious flavours and service provided by Tailored Events.

As the sun set our marquee invited us with its soft white light and aromatic bowls or flowers. Even the cake was covered with white flowers! David and I were always going to have chocolate cake! We spoke with Paris at Planet Cake and we decided to forgo the traditional white icing and decoration in place of chocolate fondant topped with a dramatic sweep of flowers hanging down to the crystal cake stand. We sat at allocated tables for the main course, we chose a round table in the centre of the room for the bridal party and family, we wanted to be included in the assembly, not sitting apart from it. After our main course and speeches, scrumptious desert canapes were served and then of course, the cutting of our cake.

We danced to classic music by Frank Sinatra and Dean Martin provided by our chosen band and then our congregation made an arch with their arms and we left by water taxi and our guests filed onto their ferry back to the wharf at the Opera House steps.

All was captured on video by Soda Films, they provided us with a 20 minute "music video" and a longer documentary as well. Perfect!
